Pedersen becomes Vineyard Wind’s chief executive, replacing Erich Stephens, who is the developer’s new chief development officer.
Iain Henderson, the former head of regulated transactions at Iberdrola subsidiary ScottishPower Renewables, also joins the company as its chief financial officer.
Vineyard Win, a 1GW project located 22 kilometres south of Martha’s Vineyard, is being developed by a joint venture between Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ (CIP) and another Iberdrola subsidiary, Avangrid Renewables.
Pedersen had previously spent nine years at Danish developers Dong Energy, overseeing the development and operations of more than ten European offshore projects.
More recently, he had served as co-CEO of Copenhagen Offshore Partners’, the offshore wind development arm of CIP.
Stephens, Vineyard Wind’s former CEO, will continue focussing on the pre-construction development of the project, the company said.
Project owners CIP and Avangrid said the leadership reshuffle was part of a "long-planned evolution" involving "bolstering the team with industry experts with a long track record of successfully constructing and operating projects in Europe".
Vineyard Wind plans to build a 1GW wind farm there.
