The €80 million order covers the manufacture and delivery of 150 kilometres of 220kV high voltage cables.

Manufacturing will take place at Nkt's facility in Cologne, northwest Germany. The order has been split into two phases with the first phase set for delivery in 2016. The final phase will be delivered in 2017.

Nkt said the deal is subject to a final investment decision (FID) on the project by Dong.

Dong bought Race Bank from utility Centrica in December 2013, after the project failed to qualify for the government's FID-enabling contracts for difference mechanism.

In July, Dong handed engineering firm WSP the contract to help design the onshore substation and consultancy Atkins was given the contract to design the offshore substation in April.
