The two-story building will act as its base for its operations in the German North Sea, primarily the company's Nordsee Ost wind farm.

The 3,000-square-metre space at the island's southern harbour features a warehouse, offices and workshops, and will be filled over the next few days with around 50 employees.

While the building will primarily act as a control centre for the wind farm, minor repair on turbines and components may be carried out at the centre.

It will be the main operations and maintenance base for the 20-year lifetime of the 295MW Nordsee Ost wind farm, which is due to be completed in the spring of 2015.
