Blue Water to grow its foundations transportation activities

Blue Water Shipping (BWS) is looking to grow its marine transportation activities and is eyeing expansion in the offshore wind turbine foundations market.

The Danish group has already amassed offshore wind power experience in port logistics and the provision of accommodation vessels, and is now looking further offshore for growth.

The shipment of monopiles and tripods to offshore development sites is in the €470m-turnover company's sights. "We are looking to expand our activities in offshore wind and are building up our team," Brian Sørensen, BWS' business development and sales manager told Windpower Offshore.

The company's primary focus is north-west Europe, where it is has already been involved with a number of offshore wind farm developments, including: Greater Gabbard, Walney 1 & 2, Sheringham Shoal, London Array, Lincs, Teesside, Thanet and Robin Rigg in UK waters, and Horns Rev 1 and 2 and Anholt, off Denmark. It was also involved with the Princess Amalia (formerly Q7) project in the Dutch North Sea.

As to its potential future clients, Sørensen confirmed that BWS was talking to several potential clients, including "major developers".
