Renewables deliver 6.1% of 2012 revenues

Areva’s renewables division recorded 92.3% revenue growth last year. It was largely a result of expansion in its offshore wind business, which supplied turbines for the Global Tech 1 and Borkum West II projects.

No detailed breakdown of Areva’s offshore turbine business is given in the 2012 headline results. But the renewables division contributed €572m (6.1%) of the €9.3bn group-wide revenues, up from €297m (3.3%) in 2011. The division’s order book shrank, but this was largely due to lower activity in the biomass sector.

Areva manufactures a single turbine model, the Multibrid 5000 (M5000) 5.0MW. It currently operates one production facility in Bremerhaven, but is planning further bases in Scotland and Le Havre, France.
