Offshore Project Progress - 2 October

Europe: Recent project updates from German project Wikinger, the Nobelwind site in Belgium, Krieger's Flak in Denmark and two of Dong Energy's developments in the UK.

Wikinger

Vessel charter: Fred. Olsen Windcarrier has been contracted to transport and install Wikinger's 70 Adwen 5MW turbines.

Either the Brave Tern or the Bold Tern will be utilised at the Baltic Sea project site.

The contract will commence during Q1 2017, with completion expected in Q3 2017.

It includes the provision of installation technicians from Global Wind Service A/S (DK).

The 350MW Wikinger project is being developed by Iberdrola. 25-Sep-15

 

Walney Extension

Decision due: A final investment decision (FID) on Dong Energy's Walney Extension is due to be made before the end of the year.

Onshore construction work for the 660MW two-phase project would commence in late 2015, with offshore work getting under way in 2017.

Planned for a site in the Irish Sea off Cumbria, it is an extension of the 367MW Walney 1 and 2 projects completed in 2012. 29-Sep-15

 

Burbo Bank Extension

Start date: Dong has also confirmed offshore construction work at Burbo Bank Extension is due to commence in early 2016.

The 256MW project - an extension of the 90MW Burbo Bank site - is being developed in Liverpool Bay, off the north Wales coast.

It is due for completion in 2017 and will be the first commercial project to feature MHI-Vestas' V164-8MW turbine. 29-Sep-15

 

Nobelwind

Foundation contract: German firm EEW Special Pipe Constructions has won an order for 51 monopile foundations for the 165MW Nobelwind project; 50 to support the turbines and one for the offshore substation.

They will be produced in Rostock, Germany between March and August 2016.

The project is being developed by a joint venture between Meewind, Parkwind and Sumitomo. It is planned for a site 47km offshore in the Belgian North Sea and due to be operational by December 2017. 1-Oct-15

 

Krieger's Flak

Tender pre-qualification: The Danish Energy Agency (DEA) has received applications from eight organisations seeking pre-qualification to participate in the tender for Kriegers Flak.

The DEA will consider whether the applications meet the required economic, financial and technical conditions, before final and binding offers are submitted by 8 November 2016.

The 600MW project is planned for a site in the Baltic Sea. 1-Oct-15
