RES will set up a consultancy unit in the country, led by Blue Wind Engineering founder Jone Oh. RES said it will focus on providing "project life-cycle services" to the country's emerging offshore market.
The UK firm said it already has a presence in Australia and Japan. It also said the South Korean's "ambitious targets" were an "exciting opportunity".
South Korea is set to make its first moves into offshore wind, with 264MW planned to come online in 2015, according to WPO Intelligence, the data division Windpower Offshore.
The 30MW Tamra project, is under construction off the country's southern Juju Island. It is set to be South Korea's first commercial project.
In March 2014, South Korea-based Hyosung Corporation installed a prototype of its 5MW offshore turbine, developed by Aerodyn, on Juju. The turbine was approved by German certification body DEWI-OCC in September.
