Bilfinger is currently developing a new facility in Szczecin, northern Poland. The European Commission, as part of its innovative economy programme, approved the funding.

President of Bilfinger Offshore, Dirk Kassen, said: "The subvention enables us to buy state of the art plant equipment and realise pioneering production technology in the offshore sector."

Bilfinger was recently awarded a contract by developer Wpd to install steel foundations to the 110MW Nordergrunde project in the North Sea.

In February, the company put its offshore and marine units up for sale following an "unsatisfactory" financial year.
