TV interview: Inside Iceni Marine's 23-metre catamaran

UK: Iceni Marine Services has acquired a 23-metre catamaran for offshore servicing in the North Sea. The company recently moored the vessel in the City of London for viewing.

The Iceni Venture will be used to carry 12 technicians and three crew to various offshore projects in the North Sea. According to Iceni, the boat has reached speeds of up to 32 knots in recent trials.

The vessel was designed by South Boats.

Speaking about the vessel, Iceni services director Richard Thurlow said: "The challenge is builing a boat that doesn't overun on cost that affects the day rate. It's a fine balance between developing a good boat and tying it to a package that makes it affordable."

A South Boats spokesman said: "Many of the existing hull forms demonstrated peaks of performance in one area but tended to have dramatic limitations in another.

"The Iceni Venture is the first in class crew transfer vessel to address this and promises to deliver a new benchmark in performance. In addition, this design has been fully tank tested to optimise sea-keeping, running trim, fuel efficiency and performance."
