The joint venture (JV), formed of construction firms Graham and Lagan Construction, will be responsible for preparing the dockside for Siemens to build its blade manufacturing facility.

It will also need to reclaim 75,000 square metres of the River Humber to create a 650-metre long quay.

"Construction will also involve dredging a new berth pocket, completion of earthworks and surfacing, building internal access roads and service networks, construction of a new roll-on / roll-off ramp and demolition of some existing buildings," said a spokesperson for ABP.

Construction activity at Green Port Hull is due to begin before Christmas.

Graham has previously worked on installing Samsung's 7MW prototype turbine at the Methil offshore demonstration site in Scotland.

Lagan Construction has worked on the 28.5MW Slieve Kirk Mountain and 156MW Griffin wind projects for SSE in Scotland.

In March, Siemens committed to spending £160 million to build the factory, which will produce blades for its 6MW turbine.

Hull City council gave planning consent to the site in September; three years after the project partners signed a memorandum of understanding to develop the facility.
