A 50/50 joint venture between Iberdrola subsidiary Scottish Power Renewables and Dong Energy, the West of Duddon Sands project will feature 108 Siemens 3.6MW turbines when it is completed later this year.

"All the cables and foundations are installed, plus about 40 of the turbines, and we’ve now commissioned the substations and the first of the turbines," said Scottish Power Renewables’ head of offshore wind Jonathan Cole.

Cole played particular tribute to the role played in the installation process by two bespoke vessels, Pacific Orca and Sea Installer. "They have been performing ahead of expectations," he said.

West of Duddon Sands marks Iberdrola’s first operating offshore wind project.
