Based on an old navigation buoy over 5 metres high and 12 metres in diameter, the platform is equipped with standard instruments to accurately measure the wind resource, sea conditions and other characteristics.

One of its main objectives is "to collect accurate and reliable environmental data, which will help limit the technical and financial risks of proposed projects and reduce the cost of the electricity produced", the company said.

It has been anchored in the Channel off the Cherbourg peninsula, where it will undergo six months of tests. If all goes well, it will then be used to carry out measurements for Nass&Wind Offsore and its potential future partners.

Nass&Wind Offshore is a partner in the 480MW St-Nazaire offshore project and is also involved in the development of the Winflo floating turbine.
