Developer Dominion Virginia Power partnered with DMME to establish the Virginia Offshore Wind Technology Advancement Project to install two Alstom 6MW offshore wind turbines off Virginia’s coast.

Data from the research will inform the future production of renewable energy within Virginia.

BOEM did not receive any expressions of competitive interest in the proposed wind site following a public consultation and, consequently, is proceeding with the leasing process on a non-competitive basis.

In September Dominion Virginia Power submitted a $1.6 million bid in the US's second offshore wind competitive lease auction, winning the right to develop nearly 113,000 acres off the coast of Virginia.
