Neoen Marine joins GDF consortium for French bid

FRANCE: French developer Neoen Marine has formed a consortium with French electric utility company GDF Suez and Portugal's EDP Renewables to bid in the second round of France's 1GW tender for offshore wind.

Neoen will own 10% of the new consortium. with GDF Suez and EDP Renewables taking 47% and 43% respectively.

Areva will supply its M5000 5MW turbine if the bid is successful,.

The tender involves the installation of 1GW of wind turbines off the French coast. This includes 500MW near Le Tréport, northern France, and 500MW near the islands of Yeu and Noirmoutier, western France, by 2020.

Neoen Marine has experience as a developer in the Yeu-Noirmoutier region and will provide the consortium with local knowledge, analysis of the coastline, usage and technical issues.

The offers will be assessed by the French government based on technical, financial, industrial, social and environmental criteria.

Submissions must be made to the French Regulatory Commission of Energy by 29 November, with the government's decision expected in 2014.

EDF Energies Nouvelles has announced it will bid for both projects with WDP Offshore and Alstom.
