Sea Installer delivers Siemens 6MW turbines at Gunfleet Sands 3

First job for A2Sea vessel bodes well for future engagements

A2Sea's Sea Installer has been used for installation of two Siemens 6MW 120m turbines at the Gunfleet Sands 3 demonstration project, which will spark full-scale offshore testing of the eagerly awaited model.

Speaking with Windpower Offshore, A2Sea chief executive, Jens Frederik Hansen, said the first test for its new purpose-built jack-up vessel was "a first small job that had an excellent result".

"Sea Installer showed already on the first test that some of the advantages built into this second-generation vessel worked as expected," said Hansen. "The first positioning of the vessel was done with an incredible accuracy of 3cm. After a penetration of the legs with large spud cans many meters into the seabed, they were efficiently and quickly retracted from the seabed with the purpose-built water injection system."

As previously reported by Windpower Offshore, Sea Installer's next job will involve installing turbines at Dong's 400MW Anholt offshore wind farm, in Denmark.

From April, Sea Installer will be enganged for a year on West of Duddon Sands, starting with foundations installation, moving on to transition pieces and finally 108 Siemens 3.6MW turbines.

A2Sea is an offshore wind-specific company owned jointly by Dong and Siemens. Its revenue has grown by more than 500% in five years. Sea Installer is the company's first purpose-built vessel.
