LS Cable & System wins €16m cable contract from Dong

Korean firm enters European market with Westermost Rough

LS Cable & System is to supply extra-high voltage cables for DONG Energy's Westermost Rough project. The €16m contract announced today marks the Korean company's entry into the European submarine cable market.

It will supply 150kV submarine cables, 150kV and 275kV extra high-voltage underground cables and connection materials for the 210MW project, which will be fully commissioned in 2015.

Already active in the US and Middle East, LS Cable & System president, Ja-Eun Koo, said: "It holds great significance that we can now enter the European submarine cable market".

DONG Energy announced its detailed plans for the €1bn project last week. The wind farm will comprise 35 Siemens turbines and will be the first commercial project to feature the new SWT-6.0-154 model.

Planned for a site in the North Sea, 8km off the Yorkshire coast, offshore construction is scheduled to commence in the first half of 2014.
