Piriou building CTVs in Vietnam

French shipbuilder collaborates on design with BMT Nigel Gee

Breton shipbuilder Piriou has moved into the offshore wind sector with a new series of support vessels. Two boats are already under construction by Piriou's subsidiary inVietnam, for delivery to an unspecified European project at the end of the year.

In order to enter the offshore wind market, Piriou teamed up with British ship design firm, BMT Nigel Gee. The latter’s proven catamaran design offers "a series of fundamental advantages," says Piriou, including a fender system to allow the safe transfer of personnel.

Piriou's first contract is for two 22m aluminium vessels crew transfer vessels capable of carrying 5t of equipment as well as a 4t crane. The company is also collaborating with BMT Nigel Gee on slightly larger model.
