New finance director for Global Tech 1

First power expected soon for 400MW project

A new chief financial officer (CFO) has been announced for Global Tech 1, the company building a 400MW offshore wind farm with the same name in the German North Sea. The project is expected to achieve first power later this spring.

From the beginning of this month, Thomas Maetzel has been responsible for the commercial activities of Global Tech 1. Maetzel replaces Thomas Meerpohl, who has moved on to become head of strategy and group management at Stadtwerke München. The German energy company is one of nine shareholders in Global Tech 1, owning 24.9%.

Construction of Global Tech 1 has been complicated by the financial instability of one of the companies originally chosen to supply tripod foundations. The project also suffered delay due to slow progress with grid connection, but this has been resolved.

Despite the fact that not all foundations are yet in place, both array cable laying and turbine installation are underway. First power is anticipated this spring.
